The management of the American helium stock

    November 11, 2018

Olivier Massol, Scientific Assistant to the Director of IFP School, and Omer Rifaat, a graduate of the Master of Energy and Markets (class of 2015), have just co-authored the article "Phasing out the U.S. Federal Helium Reserve: Policy insights from a world helium model", published in the scientific journal Resource and Energy Economics. Omer thus accesses publication in a renowned journal, here ranked A by HCERES. Congratulations!

In this article, Olivier Massol and Omer Rifaat focus on helium, which is an essential commodity for many industrial and medical activities. They are studying the conditions for optimal closure of the American strategic stockpile that had been established for the lunar expeditions of the Apollo Space Program. Using a model, they show that the exit policy decided by the US government does not defend the interests of US taxpayers, is not favourable to either the US or the global economy, and leads to a loss of resources.
